Here's a link to an editorial by Stanley Fish in The New York Times about this latest horseshit regarding Barack Obama's "association" with William Ayers, formerly of the Weathermen. It's a little dose of common sense which will probably sink to the bottom of the well with barely a ripple. I'll vote for Clinton if she somehow manages to clinch the nomination, but her campaign has taken such a ghastly turn that I'll have to fight my gag reflex to do it. There was a time not too long ago that, though I still supported Obama, I enjoyed the rare treat of having two strong candidates I could feel comfortable about running for the nomination. I don't feel that way anymore about Clinton. She seems to be on a campaign of mutual assured destruction. I just don't understand what she's doing.
On a related note, my brother -- a long-time Republican -- has come to see that Bush has been an unmitigated disaster and is going to vote Democratic this election. Until recently he's been an Obama supporter as well, but he's lately swung over to Clinton. Which is fine, as long as he'll vote Democratic when it counts. But soe of the things that have pushed him away from Obama include the flag lapel pin issue, Michelle Obama's comments about only recently being proud of her country, and Jeremiah Wright. These are, apparently, legitimate issues.
I think this country might really be lost.
Speaking of which! Here's a link to a French documentary, recently yanked from Google Video, called The World According to Monsanto. There's some discussion about the film here. Thanks go to Barth Anderson for this.

Thanks for the Monsanto links, Nathan! From one of them I found my way to http://freedocumentaries.org/index.php
Pam (pds_lit) has given the Monsanto article/movie links a plug as well. She's more worried about GM foods than I am; we're both equally worried, though, about Monsanto's sheer rapacity. They are evil, evil bastards, and I desire beyond all measure that I could make myself believe in Hell so I could think of them rotting in it for all eternity.
I suppose Minnesota will be a swing state thanks to all of the damn corporate people who have been moving here and clogging up the suburbs, so I'll have to, but I might literally puke right there in the voting booth.
Obama isn't far enough to the left for me, anyway, but at least he isn't loathsome on a personal level.
The Monsanto videos are horrifying, as is this insane world. I'm with you, there's no hope for leadership, and global corporations are running and ruining everything, as they have been for decades. The presidency is a big farce, and no matter who gets elected, he or she will be nothing more than a puppet for global industry.
Eat organic as much as possible, and stay away from beef. Cripes! Don't eat beef!
Good post, Nathan. Thanks.
Eat organic as long as you can afford it, anyway. I went to the food co-op the other day to buy some vegetables and left there almost as stunned as I do when I leave the gas station. This is why I have to start my own garden.
I don't see how we're going to make it.
